Overview

We all want to maintain a healthier lifestyle and it’s easy to put off. Base on experts' research, it shows

"42% of people said, I don’t have time "
“35% of people said, I don’t have the motivation.”

Online learning has become popular today. We are interested in creating a yoga app for adults who want to get inspired to practice yoga. Since building a workout habit seems hard, our platform aims at optimizing learners to get inspired to do yoga on a regular basis .

Let’s see how I tackled the problem...

Step 1 Research

Qualitative Research

I conducted survey questions and semi-structured remote interviews.
My participants were adults who:

  • have online learning experience;
  • Interested in practicing yoga;
  • Desire to practice yoga on a regular basis.
Affinity Maps

I collected all the data and created an affinity map which shows users’ behaviour /Theme and opportunity.

Research Key Findings

Key finding #1

Seeing progress is one of the key motivations for learners to continue to practice yoga. Participants wants tracking practicing progress.

“I often interpreted by busy life, I would like to track my practice progress, my current subscribed app doesn’t have this feature”
(Participant 1)

Key finding #2

Setting a goal with a consistent schedule provides users with a guide for regular practice.
Participants want to practice yoga to maintain their health but lack motivation. They take online yoga session randomly.

“I need someone to motivate me. I have inconsistency in scheduling”
(Participant 2)

Step 2    IDEALIZATION

Feature Prioritization

Three features I will prioritize are:

  • Set up users’ goals feature
  • Pick a schedule
  • Quick pick your favorite lessons features based on recommendation

I will prioritize these because these are first-hand basic and the most important features of yoga app.

  • Provide users to set up learning goals to get start the journey. Based on interview,  users like to consistent practicing so setting up goal is priority
  • Provide users to quick pick their favorite lesson based on recommendation so they can get easily access the lesson. Based on setting up goals, users have lessons ready to pick up learning.
  • Interviewees like to have consistent practice so create a planner will help users.

Step 3    DESIGN

UI Flow in High Fidelity

I created high-fidelity clickable prototypes, also iterating them according to accessibility principles.

Colors

The colors I’ve chosen are clam and joy and really suit the yoga topic - blue is known to be a “calm” color, while orange is a joy and energy that gives motivation of movement.
Base on WCAG guildline, I used contrast checker to check and made modification.

Step 4    Testing

Remote Unmoderated Usability Sessions

Users enjoyed

  • Like the color combination
  • Like visual consistent visual image and layout
  • Like have welcome page of personal preference

Things to consider

  • Schedule page should be improve to get more clear
  • Always have option to go back to home scree
  • Would be better have 2 different path for new users and return users
KPI Increasing Task Success Rate

Finally, I have done iterations for high fidelity prototyping usability testing.

  • 95% of users reported that they like good color choice and color combination.
  • 60% of users stay longer time at scheduled tasks for a period of time, and 30% of users' are not able to go back to the home page.

We set a goal to decrease time at the pick up schedule task and the modified screen will have improved CTAs and animation links for task flow to the Home menu screen. And, we also modified accessibility to show selecting date with improved layout.

Step 5    Final product

UI Screens

After two rounds of prototyping, users feedback and testing, and final iterations, I delivered a design solution that strongly provides visual pleasing with immediate access to the key features for users.

How do we help this?
